Witchspire Crafting: Stations, Recipes & Materials

Crafting is the engine that drives every run in Witchspire. As a marooned witch, you survive by turning what you gather — wood, ore, dust, herbs, and monster drops — into the tools, incense, potions, and gear that let you explore farther, bind stronger familiars, and keep your Hearth standing. This Witchspire crafting guide walks through every crafting station, the recipes that matter most, the materials behind them, and how the whole system scales as you upgrade your Hearth and your Luminary skill tree.

Witchspire crafting and base building

Because Witchspire is in Steam Early Access, most community recipe data is community-reported and patch-dependent (current patch around 0.1.4). Where a recipe is disputed or unverified, this guide says so rather than presenting it as confirmed.

All Witchspire Crafting Stations

Witchspire crafting is station-based. You don’t craft from a single menu — different stations unlock at different points in your progression, so knowing which bench does what is the first step to an efficient base.

Starting Stations: Workbench and Alchemy Table

You have two stations from the very beginning:

  • Workbench — your all-purpose early bench. It handles tools, the familiar whistle, bait, and the lantern. A Witch’s Lantern is widely recommended as your first priority so you aren’t caught unprepared on night one.
  • Alchemy Table — the consumables bench. It produces potions, elixirs, Hearth upgrades, and incense, making it the backbone of both survival and familiar hunting.

Exploration & Skill Unlocks: Forge, Spell Weaving Loom, Alchemy Circle

As you push out from Thornveil, new stations become available:

  • Forge — unlocked through Meadows exploration. It opens up metal tools and the tier 2 pickaxe, and it needs Timber for its first recipe.
  • Spell Weaving Loom — unlocked in the Mid Meadows. This is where you craft scrolls, robes, and tome weapons, including the Staff of Echoes.
  • Alchemy Circle — unlocked from the central skill tree. It is used to craft Ritual Candles.

Hearth-Gated Production: Furnace, Windmill, Forester’s Hut, Mining Station

Late in the Early Access progression, crafting shifts toward automation and passive generation:

  • Furnace — smelts ore into ingots using Charcoal.
  • Windmill — unlocked at Hearth level 7; it is required for the level 8 Hearth upgrade.
  • Forester’s Hut — unlocked at Hearth level 8; it passively produces Beeswax or Wood when a Treetop familiar is assigned to it.
  • Mining Station — passively produces Gemstones (25 Gold each) when a familiar is assigned.

Witchspire Crafting Recipes That Matter Most

With the stations mapped out, here are the Witchspire crafting recipes worth prioritizing, grouped by what they solve.

The Essential Early Recipes

  • Hearth Core — described as the single most important early recipe. It upgrades your Hearth to Level 2 and is crafted using Spirit Essence (with Crystal as an additional requirement for the upgrade path). Building the Hearth early gives you an anchor that prevents enemy spawns and enables fast travel.
  • Planks — a building material used specifically in the Hearth Level 1 → 2 upgrade.
  • Health Elixir — the most accessible early healing item, crafted from Moonleaf and Spring Water.

Incense and the Familiar-Bonding Loop

Incense is the main catching tool used to raise your bonding success rate with wild familiars. Crafting it is a core loop:

  • Simple Spirit Incense — crafted with Spirit Dust.
  • Incense of Calling — requires a Spirit Shard.
  • Shimmering Incense — crafted from Greater Spirit Dust and Shimmer Dust.

Since your chance of bonding certain quest familiars (like Peb) is “practically nil” without incense, stocking incense early pays off enormously.

Gear, Weapons, and Armor

  • Staff of Echoes — a tome/staff weapon crafted at the Spell Weaving Loom using a Spirit Shard.
  • Lux Wand (Brightspreader) — an end-of-tree wand unlocked in the Luminaries skill tree at Hearth 8.
  • Grand Coven Robes — high magic-resistance robes whose recipe comes from the Moonlit Grove boss.

Smelting and Ingots

The Furnace converts raw ore into refined ingots using Charcoal as fuel:

  • Copper Ingot — smelted from copper ore.
  • Iron Ingot — smelted from iron ore.
  • Silver Ingot — a location-specific ingot smelted from silver ore (commonly routed near the Mira Isles Flight Pillar).
  • Gold Ingot — a late Early Access ingot mined from gold deposits.

Witchspire Crafting Materials and Where to Find Them

Every recipe traces back to gathering. Here is the material map you’ll rely on.

Gemstone farming is the standout money maker: assign a familiar to a Mining Station, then sell at Mirella’s Shop, which buys Gemstones at full price.

The Hearth Upgrade Path

Your Hearth is more than a base — it drives progression across 9 upgrade levels. Crafting feeds directly into it:

  • Level 1 → 2: uses the Hearth Core recipe plus Planks as a building material.
  • Mid path: Spirit Dust and higher-tier dusts are consumed for Hearth upgrades via the Alchemy Table.
  • Level 7: requires a Ritual Candle, crafted at the Alchemy Circle; unlocking the Windmill here leads to the Level 8 upgrade.
  • Level 8: unlocks the Forester’s Hut and the Lux Wand (Brightspreader) in the Luminaries tree.

Upgrading the Hearth unlocks new crafting stations

Witchspire Crafting Skill: The Luminary Tree

Your Witchspire crafting skill progression runs through the Luminary Skill Tree using Luminary Points. Notable nodes that feed into crafting and utility include:

  • Vigor — enables the double jump, opening up resource routes.
  • Luck — increases the luck stat by 1 per point, improving rare drops.
  • Scroll of Regrowth — both a scroll and a Luminary node that spawns Spirit Trees, giving you a renewable wood source.

Coven choice also shapes progression, since each of the six Covens (including the star- and shadow-attuned Nightscribes) grants coven-specific bonuses on top of the branching tree.

Witchspire Crafting Bug & Disputed Recipes

Because the game is in Early Access, not every recipe is reliable. The most commonly flagged concern is disputed recipe data — for example, the Witch’s Pickaxe, whose recipe is reported to include both Carapace and Froblin Goo, is disputed by the community and should be treated as unverified.

More broadly:

  • Most recipe and material data is community-reported and changes between patches (current patch ~0.1.4).
  • Content and endgame systems (such as the Spire’s 4-keys system) remain incomplete and subject to change.
  • If a recipe fails to appear or behaves unexpectedly, the safest move is to confirm the requirement against the current patch rather than trusting older lists — Early Access recipes can silently change between updates.

Final Crafting Tips

  • Craft a Witch’s Lantern first — night one is unforgiving without it.
  • Rush the Hearth Core to reach Hearth Level 2 for a respawn and fast-travel anchor.
  • Stock incense early (Simple Spirit Incense → Incense of Calling → Shimmering Incense) so you never miss a bond.
  • Farm Gemstones for Gold via a Mining Station and sell at Mirella’s Shop.
  • Explore the Meadows to unlock the Forge, then the Mid Meadows for the Spell Weaving Loom.
